Contract frontend engineer
I'm Andrew. I build React and Next.js applications for organisations that need them to be fast, accessible and still maintainable in three years' time — and I help their teams get better at building them too.
What I do
Tokens, components and documentation that other teams can build on without asking me questions. Right now I'm using AI in the loop to build and test a system consumed by third-party applications — generating and reviewing components at pace while keeping the public API stable for the teams downstream.
Greenfield applications and rebuilds on Next.js 15 and React 19. Server and client components, SSR and SSG, sensible routing — put together so the next developer can read it.
Core Web Vitals work with a measurable before and after — LCP, INP and CLS. Semantic markup and keyboard-first interaction built in from the start rather than retrofitted after an audit.
Content modelling in Contentful, Prismic and PayloadCMS, and automated migrations off legacy platforms like Sitecore and EPiServer — delivered without taking the site down.
Selected work
Building a component library with AI in the loop, consumed by third-party applications. The work is as much about guardrails as speed: a stable versioned API, generated tests that are actually reviewed, and documentation that stays in step with the code.
A responsive Next.js 15 and React 19 application using server-side rendering, static generation and catch-all routing, backed by a multi-tenant PayloadCMS 3 and MongoDB setup. Components built and tested in Storybook, then wired into server and client components.
Greenfield Next.js 15 and Prismic build. I modelled the content types so they mapped cleanly onto React components, built the library in Storybook with full test coverage, and integrated it across the application.
Automated an EPiServer to Contentful migration with zero downtime, and packaged the React component library as an NPM module so it could be reused across Next.js applications. Integrated ticketing APIs for live booking and availability, and cleaned up AWS S3 media for accessibility on the way through.
Led frontend delivery on the move from Sitecore and .NET MVC to a JAMstack platform on Next.js, Netlify and Contentful, integrating Auth0, payment providers and internal APIs. I came back later to lift Core Web Vitals — upgrading Node and Next.js, and cutting page weight through bespoke data mapping.

About
I've spent eight years contracting as a frontend engineer, on everything from greenfield builds to platform migrations for organisations that can't afford downtime. Accessibility, performance and semantic, scalable code are the parts I care about most — they tend to be the parts that decide whether a build still works a few years later.
Before contracting I ran teams. I was Digital Director at Havas Lynx, reporting to the CEO on digital transformation, and Head of Frontend Development at Code Computerlove, where I grew the team from two to nine — four of them apprentices — in a lean agile environment. Helping other developers get better is still the part of the job I enjoy most.
